Roy Dale Charles of Lake Palo Pinto, Gordon, Texas, aged 69, was called to heaven on April 13, 2023. A visitation will be held Sunday, April 16th from 4-6:00 PM at Edwards Funeral Home Strawn. Graveside services will be held Monday, April 17th at 10:00 AM at New Gordon Cemetery, with Rev. Mike Orsini officiating. He was named after the famous Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. He was an Army brat and born in Marysville, California. Many people knew him as Roy, Roy Dale, RD, Dale Roy, Boss Hogg, and of course, the name he took so much pride in was Santa Claus. He enjoyed this so much because he liked to hold the babies and watch and see how much they grew over the years. He loved taking family portraits with them to be used for their next year’s Christmas cards. He served as Santa Claus for the Gordon volunteer fire department for over 40 years, which also included surrounding areas. Roy married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Charla, from Fort Worth. They have been married for 48 years. They were seldom seen one without the other. Not having children of their own, they always had a van of kids and took them on many adventures throughout the years. They were always considered family. The Gordon 4-H club also played a role in his life, where he participated as a leader. He also volunteered with the Lake Palo Pinto fire department, Gordon Volunteer Fire Department, and the Tri-City Ambulance. He played a big role in helping out in the community. He served with the Lake Palo Pinto patrol office for many years and took his position, very serious, protecting and serving his community. The many kids high sports and activities that he supported were greatly appreciated and never went unnoticed. Roy is proceeded in death by his parents George and Charlesy Charles, and grandmother Bertha. Survived by his wife Charla, fur baby Sister, childhood best friend, Carl Smith of Burleson, cousin Greg Charles, and wife Ginny of Yantis, Texas. A special thank you goes to close friends, Amy and William Floyd , Larry and Sherry Rasmussen, and Bob Williams. And to those that always called with warm wishes and prayers. A thank you also to Three Oaks Hospice and Keeneland Rehabilitation for your kindness and assistance.
