Ron Machalek, taken while on vacation in Galveston, Texas

Abilene – Ronnie Dean Machalek, 82, passed away on August 7, 2024 at Hendrick Hospice in Abilene surrounded by his family. A Graveside service will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024 at 11:00am at Eastland City Cemetery with Pastor, Ronny Guess officiating. A family visitation will be held at 10:00am at Edwards Funeral Home of Eastland.

Ronnie was born on October 8, 1941 in Bastrop, Texas to Joe William and Anne (Ashcraft) Machalek. He graduated from Temple High School in Temple, Texas. During high school he was the catcher for the baseball team and his brother was the pitcher. After high school, Ronnie enlisted in the United States Air Force and during his time of service he was assigned to duty at the Pentagon.  During his time in the Washington DC area, he became a member and served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church in Springfield, Virginia. Ronnie married Barbara Moore on May 22, 1965 in Arlington, Virginia. He later worked for the Federal Government for over 30 years until his retirement from the Treasury Department.

Ronnie loved the Washington Redskins and was an avid model railroader with Santa Fe Railroad models. He enjoyed reading and was a very quiet man that would give you the shirt off his back.

Ronnie is survived by daughter, Ronda Trent and husband, Alvis; son, Woody Machalek and wife, Alisa; three grandsons, Bryce Machalek, Kennan Machalek and Joseph Trent; granddaughter, Rebekah Trent; brother, Robert Machalek and wife, Barbara; niece, Sherry Thompson and husband, Steve and nephew, Russell Machalek and wife, Karen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Anne Machalek and wife, Barbara Machalek.
