Ranger Historical Preservation Society Gears Up for Fall Events

RANGER, TX—This year’s theme for the Roaring Ranger Day Parade, organized by the Ranger Historical Preservation Society (RHPS), is “Boomtown Heritage.” The RHPS Roaring Ranger Day Parade will be held on Saturday morning at 10:00 am on September 21, 2024. Help us kick off Roaring Ranger Days with a community parade reminiscent of the 1940s – crowds of people! Save the date and be there to show your community support. If you want to be in the parade, we want you! Businesses, church groups, teams, community and school organizations, Scouts – all are welcome and needed. Entry is free and forms are available on our Facebook page or by request.

After the parade, drive over to Roaring Ranger Days on Loop 254 for two days of vendors, events, and food, organized by the Ranger Citizens Task Force. RHPS will have a booth at the event, along with so many other vendors! Come by our booth for Ranger history books, mugs, ornaments, t-shirts, and more. We will also have forms for our Thurber Brick Fundraiser. RHPS is continuing our memorial wall with engraved Thurber bricks. Commemorate your class, friend, or family member with an engraved brick. All sales and proceeds from our fundraiser go to the upkeep of the RHPS historic buildings and preservation projects.

Many of our parade flyers feature historic photos that are part of the RHPS Photo Collection. Volunteers have been working for several months categorizing and preserving each photo in approved sleeves, with plans to apply for a digitization grant next summer. Many historic gems have been discovered as part of this project. Keep an eye out on social media for some of these amazing discoveries. The community can help out by identifying people and places as we go through these collections in more detail. If you would like to get involved in Ranger photo preservation, reach out to RHPS – we would love to have you! We are looking for more members to help preserve Ranger’s history. Do you like to do research or do you know a lot about Ranger’s history? Do you like to take photos or build websites? RHPS meets every third Monday of the month at the Ruth Terry Denney Library on Loop 254. Reach out via their Facebook page or email rhps1990@protonmail.com.
