Odis Gilbert McDonald (Gil), age 85, passed away Wednesday, December 27th, 2023, in Ft. Worth, TX. Edwards Funeral Home, in Eastland, TX, will be handling the service at 10 a.m. on Tuesday., January 2, 2024.
Gilbert McDonald was born March 2, 1938, in Ranger, Texas, Eastland County, to Odis Leonard & Ruth Marie (Chenault) McDonald. He grew up in Eastland, TX, graduating from Eastland High School in 1956. After graduation, he attended Ranger Jr. College, was in the U. S. Marine Reserves and then served in the U. S. Air Force until 1962. He worked for General Dynamics & later for the U. S. Postal Service in Ft. Worth, TX. He pastored several Primitive Baptist Churches in West TX and Missouri and worked eight years for the Missouri Department of Corrections before retirement. In January of 2023, his children moved him to Ft. Worth, TX.
He married Wanda Lee Harris in 1962 in Ranger, TX. He later married Jo Ella Lee in 1974 in Ft. Worth, TX. His 3rd marriage was to Carol Ruth (Burton) Smith in 1981 in Wichita Falls, Tx.
He is survived by his sons, Odis Gilbert McDonald Jr., Ft. Worth, TX, Jeff R. McDonald (Jennifer), Arlington, TX, and daughter, Laurie J. McDonald, Ft Worth, TX, step-daughters; Kristy Conway (Dave) sons, David, Dallas & Christopher, Missouri, Kimberly Morse MD, (Tim) daughters Chloe and Paige, Missouri and Kellie Lawler, Kansas, two sisters, Frankie Stephens, Gatesville, TX, and Gloria Dyke, Haysville, KS; Grandchildren: Gregory McDonald, Arden McDonald, Lora McDonald, Ethan Omondi & Everett Omondi.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dean A. McDonald, and his Ex-wife, Jo Ella Sisk, & wife, Carol McDonald.
