Jesse Calvin Tankersley (J.C.)
1934-2024
J.C., 90, passed away February 16, 2024, in Whitney, TX. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Eastland City Cemetery in Eastland.
J.C. was born January 29, 1934 to Susa Ada (Hensley) and Calvin H. Tankersley.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years Emma Lee Wilson Page Tankersley; son-in-law Robert Sigmon; grandsons Brett and Bryce Peterson; parents Ada and H. Tankersley; siblings Josie, Weldon, Neal, and beloved pet Molly.
He is survived by daughters: Nita Koester(Mike), Sherry Sigmon, Christi Peterson(Randy); Son: J. Tankersley(Ronnie); Beloved Sister: Wanda Thompson; Grandchildren: Stephen(Cindy), Page(Lane), Robin(Andy), Amber(Jake), Cade(Sarah), Ross(Sarina), and Raleigh(Braden); nineteen great-grandchildren, and many special nieces and nephews.
In his early years, J.C. worked in the oil field and was a partner at a dairy farm located in Eastland County. J.C. surrendered to the ministry, attending Howard Payne University and later pastoring churches in Rochelle, TX, Coleman, TX, Rankin, TX, Texhoma, OK, Albuquerque, NM, and Menard, TX. After retiring from the ministry, J.C. and Emma spent their time as house parents at Methodist children’s home in Waco. Because of his love for driving, J.C. drove for the Red Cross delivering blood supplies to the central and north Texas area. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, gun smithing, working as a shade tree mechanic, and following his children and his grandchildren in their sports and activities. He also enjoyed following “Lady Bears” basketball. J.C. never met a stranger and enjoyed sharing the Gospel with those he encountered.
