According to a release from Eastland Police Chief, David Hullum, on December 20, 2021, a theft was reported to the Eastland Police Department by Walmart in Eastland.
Officer Katie Thompson responded and conducted the preliminary investigation. A follow-up investigation by detective Sergeant Scot McDade determined that approximately $16,000 worth of jewelry was taken from display cases in the jewelry department of the store. It was determined that a person of interest, Juan Adrian Puente Vega, 41, had stayed in an Eastland hotel during the same time period as the theft. After reviewing surveillance video, it was determined that Vega had allegedly committed the theft. A state jail felony warrant was obtained and Vega was served the warrant while he was in the Lubbock County Jail on another charge.
The Eastland Police Department would like to thank Officer Thompson for her initial efforts in this investigation and congratulate Detective Sergeant McDade for his efforts in clearing the case.
