Eastland Animal Control was notified today 12/13/2023 that a cat that had been submitted for testing was confirmed to be positive for rabies. The cat was captured in the vicinity of Tractor Supply in Eastland. It does not appear that this case is in any way related to the raccoon that tested positive approximately 2 weeks ago in the 800 block of Oakhollow Rd.
Eastland Animal Control wants to make the public aware that raccoons, skunks, bats and fox are known to be carriers of rabies. If you encounter these animals in the wild do not try handle or capture them. If you see one of these animals exhibiting behavior out of the ordinary, please call Eastland Animal Control immediately. Domesticated animals such as cats and dogs and even cattle can contract rabies as well. If you see any domestic animals exhibiting unnormal behavior please report it to Eastland Animal Control immediately as well.
Eastland Animal Control wants to remind the public that most Ferrell cats are wild by nature and most are not vaccinated against rabies. Please do not try to catch or handle them.
