Eastland PD Traffic Stops Lead to Two Drug Arrests

Eastland police officer, Samuel Joiner initiated traffic stops of two vehicles on two different days recently which led to two arrests for possession of suspected methamphetamine.

According to Eastland Police Chief David Hullum, on February 14, 2022, around 1:15 a.m., Officer Joiner observed a vehicle behaving suspiciously in the area of reported illegal drug use. Officer Joiner developed probable cause and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle being operated by Sunny Stalker, 32, of Eastland. Over 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine were discovered after a search of the vehicle. Stalker was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, more than 4 grams and less than 200 grams.

On February 16, 2022, Officer Joiner made a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by Kinney Byrd, 54 years of age of Mart, Texas. Officer Katie Thompson arrived at the traffic stop with her K-9 “Buck”. The K-9 alerted to the odor of illegal narcotics after sniffing around the outside of the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle lead to the discovery of over 2 grams of suspected methamphetamine and different kinds of drug paraphernalia. Byrd was arrested and booked into the Eastland County Jail for Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, over 1 gram and less than 4 grams. He was also cited for the paraphernalia that was found.
