Eastland ISD’s band director, Stephen Cox, spent the past week doing those things Grammy Award nominees do… traveling to Las Vegas, making speeches, dressing to the nines, walking the red carpet, posing for photos, and hobnobbing with other musically talented people. He didn’t stop there, however, he was one of the honored to actually receive a Grammy. The winner for the category of Music Educator of the Year… Stephen Cox from Eastland, Texas!!
Not to be outdone by the glitz and glamour of the Grammys, Eastland ISD laid out their own red carpet Wednesday at the Marshall Gym leading Mr. Cox and his family to a pep rally in his honor.
At the pep rally, Eastland Mayor, Larry Vernon read a proclamation declaring April 6th as Stephen Cox Day. Former EHS student Sonny Camacho on behalf of State Representative Glenn Rogers presented a resolution signed by the Representative and a flag flown over the State Capitol in honor of Cox.
Each year the GRAMMY Museum® and The Recording Academy® partner to present the Music Educator Award to bring attention to the excellent and impactful work being done by thousands of music teachers across the U.S.
The award is open to current U.S. music teachers from kindergarten through college in public and private schools. Anyone can nominate a teacher.
Welcome back and congratulations Mr. Cox!
