Joy & STARR BOWEN

Host: The Bowens purchased the old Finch place, which had been moved from Thurber in 1922, and spent several years restoring and adding on, thanks to Jeremy, JD, and many of their friends from the football team! Now that Grace Cottage is complete, they love the peace and quiet of Gordon. Their favorite hobbies are boat building, cooking, reading, writing, and hosting their children and grandchildren.
Serving: Christmas Tea & goodies
Fun Fact: There are “bits & pieces” throughout the home, including items from the Bowens’ travels, a door from Starr’s mother’s home, and another door discarded by Gordon FUMC during the most recent renovation.
Rhonda PATTERSON
Host: The property was rebuilt 1912 as “First Christian Church”. After closing it was purchased in 1960 by the Masons and served as Masonic Lodge No. 634 and it was also home of Order of Eastern Star. It was sold in February 2008 and converted to a home.
Serving: Sausage balls, infused waters and homemade cookies.
Fun Fact: During renovation original windows were found and repurposed in a few locations within the home.
Sherrye & Randy MILLS
409 Mesquite
Host: The home was built by Sherrye’s great-grandparents Dora “Big Mama” and Lewis “Big Papa” Rogers in 1914, a dynamically creative Justice of the Peace and downtown store owner, respectively, who came to the area in the 1880’s as children and reared 10 children of their own. The Mills completed major renovations when they returned to Gordon in 2007 and again in 2020. Randy is a local small business owneroperator, Sherrye has worked from home in IT for 25 years, and they have lots of family nearby, so the home is a base for their busy lives. Sherrye has filled it with unique pieces from thrift stores, friends, family, student artists, and her own fused glass works collected over many years.
Serving: Cuban eggnog (with or without rum), white wines, an assortment of sodas, miniature club sandwiches on homemade bread and Noel Cake (just ground pecans, eggs & sugar).
Fun Fact: The large live oak on Bell St. is called “The Mama Tree” after “Big Mama” Dora, who initiated a proclamation to protect it in 1938. The late artist Bonnie Dickson generously donated the large painting of this majestic oak that hangs in the Gordon Community Center.
HINK’S

Host: Shelby and Marcus Hinkson opened their namesake at the location of her grandparents 1970’s and 80’s hotspot “Solo,” where the pool tables and pinball machines were the center of youth social life. Shelby always assumed that finishing college would be the end of her restaurant days, but as she looked for options that would allow her to spend time with her young family and fulfill her volunteer passions (she is president of the Longhorn Association), she and Marcus formed the vision for their unique and wildly popular outdoor eatery. They offer wonderfully flavorful comfort food specials along with a standard menu perfect for lunch on the go or dining outdoors. You will not want to miss their lively and fun special events like Cinco de Mayo and Crawfish Boil. Visit them on Facebook for details.
Serving: At the time of publication Hink’s is planning to serve an assortment of homemade sweets from cherished family recipes.
THE STOCKMAN’S CLUB

Host: Rich and Briana’s elevated yet approachable cuisine and live country music guests have enlivened our downtown evenings and provided a lovely complement to existing local dining offerings, cementing SW Palo Pinto County as a surprisingly diverse and worthwhile dining destination. Lunch served Wednesday to Friday is casual and social. Friday evening dinner and special events like Mother’s Day Brunch feature interpreted Texas classics as well as specials with well constructed flavors that consistently delight & satisfy. Beyond dining, Rich and Briana’s warmth and sense of community are demonstrated as they champion other local businesses and our schools.
