According to a report from Texas DPS, a woman lying in the righthand lane of eastbound I-20 at the 350 mile marker was hit and killed.

Viola Joyce, 48, of Irving, Texas was traveling eastbound on I-20 in a 2015 Kia, Optima when she struck a pedestrian lying in the roadway. The pedestrian had no identifying information on her person at the time of the crash but was later identified as Sherry Ann Maxey, 64, of Eastland.

The incident occurred at 1:05 AM on June 6, 2023. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace, Jesse Speer.

Neither the driver of the Kia nor her passenger were injured.

Investigators are waiting on toxicology reports from the medical examiner to determine if impairment may have contributed to this death.
