Hi, I’m Shirley Stuart and I am running for City Commissioner for the City of Eastland. Many of you know me, while many of you do not. For those who do not, let me offer a brief introduction:
I’ve lived in Eastland since 1975, with the exception of moving to Fredericksburg for two years following retirement. After two years being away from Eastland, I realized how much I missed the town, my friends, and my family, and moved back “home” in 2021.
I have a background in public service and small business. Before retiring in 2019, I served as City Secretary for 20 years for the City of Eastland. In the 80’s I owned a beauty supply in Eastland for five years, so I realize the struggles of owning a business and the importance of supporting small businesses in our community. Prior to my employment with the City, I worked for Westbound Water Supply, Corp. in Cisco, one of the entities that purchases water from the City of Eastland. It was there I learned the day-to-day operations of a water supply. I also prepared budgets, worked with audits and reported to a Board of Directors.
When working for the City of Eastland I loved my job and I have missed being
involved with city business and activities. While serving as City Secretary I
worked with the City Commission as well as other city boards. I have the
knowledge of daily operations of the City, the experience of working with
agendas and meetings, and most importantly, I understand the need to keep our citizens apprised of city business. I believe I have the qualifications to become a part of the decision-makers for the City of Eastland while having the utmost appreciation of the city staff and employees.
I would like to see Eastland continue to grow and provide jobs for our future generations. I raised my two children here, Gary Stuart and Tiffany Beard, both graduates of Eastland High School. I have seven grandsons, and three live in Eastland, with one still in school. I hope to see them make Eastland their “forever home”.
I believe the future of Eastland is bright. We must support our local and small businesses and continue to provide and improve city services and infrastructure while preserving our rich heritage. My hope is that Eastland will forever be a place to be proud of, a place to stay in or return to, and a place that others want to visit, move to or invest in.
Approaching 50 years of being a part of this community, I believe I will represent our citizen’s best interest and would appreciate your vote on Saturday, May 6, 2023.
