It was a busy weekend at the Lyric Art Center! Saturday evening the Cisco College drama department performed “The Banishing” written and directed by Eastland’s Zack Frizzell. Tickets sold out with over 140 people in attendance.
Then Sunday afternoon was the closing reception for Old Rip’s 2022 Art Competition. Many awards were given. Tessie Aldridge’s “Self Portrait in Least Favorite Medium” received Old Rip’s Crowd Favorite which was voted on by the general public during Old Rip Fest. Beth Lund of Eastland was the juror for the remaining awards. For the 3D Art category Lillian Moreno’s textile piece “Bake It Til You Make It” received 1st place. Honorable mentions are artists CJ Chaney and Theresa Hughes. For the Elementary Age category, Ellie Smart’s “Blueberry Super Hero” received 1st place and honorable mentions are Ms. Smart and Anna Smart. For the Middle School Age Group Claire Wright’s “Magical Horsetooth Rock” received
1st place and she also received an honorable mention for another artwork. Hannah Perkin’s “Dancing Seasons” received 1st place in the High School Age Group category and honorable mentions are Amy Nguyen Huyen, Sydnee Paige Richter, and Michelle Ibarra Palomares. In the College Age Group category Tessie Aldridge’s “Indecisive Potential” received 1st place and honorable mentions are Summer Revell and Riley LaBrenz. In the Adult category Chris McCormmick’s “Black Hole Sun” received first place and Lee Ann Goode, Roger Barrit, and Alicia Smart received honorable mentions.
Thank you to the Cisco College drama department, Spanky’s Catering, everyone who voted on their favorite artwork during Old Rip, Beth Lund, all of the artists who submitted artwork to the art competition, and everyone who made this weekend a smashing success.
