Benjamin Robert Prince, affectionately known as Benny, passed away on April 3, 2025, at the age of 77. This beloved son of Homer, Louisiana, was born on March 31, 1948, to the late Hershel “Buck” Robert and Melvie Ruth (Gantt) Prince. Benny lived a full life that was intimately tied to his love for the great outdoors.

A fierce passion for hunting and fishing emerged early in Benny’s life, nurtured during his time at Louisiana Tech where he met lifelong friend Phil Robertson. The two shared a bond forged in the woods, often prioritizing their adventures over academics. Their stories of frolicking through the forests and fishing in nearby waters became legendary among friends. In fact, Benny was known for his daring spirit, having once skinned and processed deer right in his dorm room-a testament to his commitment to his passions.

Benny chose a path that blended work with joy, beginning his career with the Louisiana Forestry Service. However, the call of the wild was too strong, prompting him to create his own business, Prince Enterprises in Homer, Louisiana. His entrepreneurial spirit continued to flourish when he relocated to Texas in 1986, where he established “Name Your Game Outfitters.” and later “Benny Prince Outfitters,” offering his expertise as a hunting guide. Benny had the privilege of hunting and fishing around the globe, but his heart remained in the family gatherings that always revolved around outdoor adventures.

A man of deep faith, accepting Christ as a teenager, alongside his sister Joan at a James Robinson crusade. Benny attended Carbon Community Church, where he found community and fellowship. His infectious laughter and love for delicious food, especially sweets, brought joy to many.

Benny will be remembered by his devoted wife, Eleanor Prince; his son, Chris Prince; and his four daughters: Courtney Prince Williamson, Cindy Patterson and husband Bryan, Cathy Frazier and husband Don, and Chierie Smith and husband Barry. He is also survived by twelve cherished grandchildren: Hershel Ben Prince, Hoyt Prince, Cailey Williamson, Jayden Williamson, Heather Nicholson, Justin Waddle, Holly and Brandon Waldrop, Clint Voigt, Cole Frazier, Cassie Starr, and Clayton Smith, along with thirteen great-grandchildren, who were the lights of his life, Peighton and Hudsyn Mathews, Brookelyn Waldrop, Ryleigh Nicholson, Bryleigh Waldrop, Hunter Nicholson, Jaxon Waldrop, Gage Voigt, Lane Voigt, Presley Frazier, Abbott Frazier, Tristan and Aria Starr.

Benny’s siblings, Joan Almond and husband Jerry, Donny Prince, and Danny Prince and wife Lenn, along with sister-in-law Shirley Prince, and an abundance of nieces, nephews, hunting buddies, and extended family will also hold him in their hearts.

Funeral services for Benny will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland, Texas, with Brother Greg Dunn officiating. Following the service, Benny will be laid to rest at Simpson Cemetery in Kokomo, Texas, near his chosen spot overlooking the duck ponds, where he can forever enjoy the beauty of nature he cherished so deeply and watch the ducks fly over.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, April 6, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the funeral home, providing family and friends an opportunity to celebrate Benny’s vibrant life together.

Pallbearers will include Brandon Waldrop, Justin Waddle, Clint Voigt, Cole Frazier, Jamie Nichols, and Jeremy Keith, while honorary pallbearers will be Hershel Ben Prince and Phillip Prince.

In life, Benny lived with boundless joy and appreciation for nature, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace.
